2-day summit trek with meals
Night: Toubkal refuge
Almost every summit trek walks the same path from Imlil to the refuge and up North Africa’s highest peak. What changes is the number of days, who carries your bag, whether the sleeping bag and crampons are included and how big the group gets.

Sorted by what usually decides the trek: the classic two days, an extra day to acclimatise, a small group, or the villages without the summit. Each reason comes from the listing itself.
The most-booked two-day summit trek, with a private option on the same listing. Guide, refuge night and meals are included; sleeping bag, crampons and a mule are rented or paid in Imlil.

Read from each product page in November 2026. Where a listing is silent, ask the operator before you count on it.
The days decide more than the operator: how long summit day is, where you sleep before the refuge, and if you go to the top at all.
Imlil to the refuge on day 1, the summit before sunrise and the long way down to Imlil on day 2.
A first night lower down, in Imlil or a village, before the refuge. Mules carry the main luggage on these treks.
Passes between 2,000 and 2,500 m, Berber villages and a night in a guesthouse, with four to seven hours of walking a day.
Reviewers praise their guides by name and warn about the cold at the summit and the length of day 2. One guest felt the guide set a pace that left no time to enjoy the top.
“We had a great time climbing mount Toubkal. The guides were very supportive and were motivating us at all times. The food was decent and the room at the refuge was spacious enough. Overall, a well organized trip with planned stops along the way, so we can have some rest throughout the walk.”
“The trek from Imlil to the mountain refuge takes about 6 hours, with several stops to rest and have a bite to eat. Upon reaching the refuge, you spend the night there; the next day, the wake-up call is at 2:00 AM, with a 3:00 AM departure for the summit. It is a life-changing experience that offers great value for money.”
“7 hours of walking on day 1 - 14km to the refuge. Had dinner, charged phones, had hot showers (bring flip flops!) and the room of 23 people was warm enough and the refuge provided thick blankets. Sleeping 9pm-3am (ear plugs useful), then breakfast of bread, butter, spreads. Started the 3 hour 5km summit trek at 4am, and it was cold and snowing at the top! … 24km of trekking on day 2. The descent felt rushed, but meant we were back in Marrakech for 5pm.”
“unfortunately our guide MOHAMED was the fastest guide on the mountain. i dont know why but he was trying to be the first everywhere. first to the summit, first back at camp, first to leave after lunch, first back to the start. there was no time to really enjoy the walk, no time to stop 1min to take some photo …”
“Amazing two day trek in the Atlas mountains! The scenery was stunning, the food was super nice, the hike itself was challenging enough without being too difficult.”

For fit hikers, the two-day summit trek by Marrakech Day Trips - Tours: it has the most reviews of any Toubkal trek on the platform, a group and a private option on the same listing, and the refuge night and meals included. Take the three-day trek by the same operator if you have never been above 3,000 metres, because its first day and night stay lower before the refuge. Want a small group? Berber Tours & Adventures limits its two-day trek to 10 participants. No summit at all? Then a village trek over the passes around Imlil is the gentler choice.
For most fit hikers, yes, but day 2 is long. You walk about five to six hours from Imlil to the refuge at 3,207 m on day 1. Day 2 starts in the dark for the summit at 4,167 m and then descends all the way to Imlil; the listings give 10 to 12 hours of walking for that day. A third day adds a lower night before the refuge, which helps if altitude is new to you.
Yes. Since early 2019 hikers in the Toubkal area have to go with a licensed mountain guide, and the gendarmerie checks passports on the path. Every trek on this site includes a guide. Bring your passport, not a copy.
Usually not on the summit treks. Most listings put the sleeping bag, crampons and ice axe on the list of things not included and point to rental shops in Imlil, where the transfer stops before the walk. Several reviewers recommend your own head torch, boots and rain jacket. The two-day village trek by Marrakech Day Trips - Tours is the exception that includes sleeping bags.
It depends on the listing. On the three-day and four-day summit treks and most village treks, mules carry the main luggage. On the most-booked two-day treks a mule is an extra you pay in Imlil, so you carry your own backpack to the refuge unless you book one. Leave the big suitcase in Marrakech.
Yes, with a guide and winter gear. The listings mention crampons and an ice axe from November to April, and snow slopes near the summit. It is a walk, not a climb, but the refuge is cold and the days are short. Rent the gear in Imlil and check it before you leave.
In a shared dormitory at the refuge at 3,207 m, below the summit. There are two refuges next to each other, the CAF refuge and Les Mouflons; the listings rarely say which one you get. Expect bunk beds, blankets and shared bathrooms. One reviewer counted 23 people in her room, another had no bed on arrival because the refuge was overbooked.
Yes. The Al Haouz earthquake of September 2023 hit the villages around Imlil, and rebuilding is still going on in places. The treks to the refuge and the summit run again, and all treks on this site can be booked.
Two days, three days or the villages, with the night, the luggage and the gear side by side.
