3-day summit trek
Night: Imlil, then the refuge
A first night in Imlil, mules for your bag and a rested start to the refuge. The summit and the path above Imlil stay the same.
Pick the day your trek should leave Marrakech, or the first and last day that would work. We read the booking calendar of every trek in the table and list the ones that still start on those days.
In the next 7 days, all 3 tours on this page still have places.
Night: Imlil, then the refuge
Night: Imlil, then the refuge
Night: Imlil, then the refuge
On a three-day trek the first night is in Imlil at 1,740 m instead of the refuge at 3,207 m. Day 2 walks up past Sidi Chamharouch to the refuge, and day 3 is the summit and the way back to Marrakech. The listings differ in what they do with day 1 and in where the last night falls.
Day 1 climbs from Imlil to the Tizi n’Tamatert pass at 2,275 m and comes back down for the night. Your legs and lungs get a first test below 3,000 m.
Day 1 is only the transfer and a night in the village, so you start the walk to the refuge fresh. Guide, muleteer and cook come with you.
A night in Imlil before the refuge and another after the summit, so summit day ends in the village instead of the van.

You reach the refuge on your second day in the mountains, after a night lower down, and the walk there is the same five or so hours as on the two-day trek. Toubkal Ascent gives four to five hours from Imlil via Aremd and Sidi Chamharouch, the four-day trek of Marrakech Day Trips - Tours five to six. Summit day then starts from the refuge with breakfast around 5 am and three to four hours to the top. A first night in Imlil does not acclimatise you fully, but you arrive at 3,207 m less tired, and after the pass walk with a day of hiking in your legs. More on altitude and fitness.

Marrakech Day Trips - Tours uses the first day for an acclimatisation walk: from Imlil up to the Tizi n’Tamatert pass at 2,275 m, lunch on a viewpoint, and back down to a lodge in Imlil. On day 2 a guide, a cook and muleteers go with the group to the refuge, where a hot shower is waiting. One reviewer in October had this first day changed at short notice, because rockfall closed the way over the pass.
Toubkal Ascent keeps day 1 simple: the transfer from Marrakech by minibus or 4×4 and an evening in Imlil. There is no hotel pickup; you meet the team at an address in Marrakech given on the booking page. Depending on the weather, its refuge night can be in a tent instead.
This is the clearest difference to the most-booked two-day treks, where the mule costs extra. On the three-day trek of Marrakech Day Trips - Tours mules carry the main luggage and you walk with a daypack; Toubkal Ascent includes a muleteer, and the four-day trek a mule team for the bags. Sleeping bag, crampons and ice axe are still yours to bring or rent. Toubkal Ascent lists all three as not included, and Marrakech Day Trips - Tours asks you to check the condition of rented items before you set off.
Marrakech Day Trips - Tours sells a four-day version: day 1 to Imlil with dinner and a night in a guesthouse or lodge, day 2 to the Neltner refuge, day 3 the summit in three to five hours and the descent to Imlil in five to six, and day 4 the drive back. The meeting point is Hôtel Islane on Avenue Mohammed V. Reviewers of this trek are split on the length. One called it the two-day package with two extra nights in Imlil, where there is little to do; another spent two days alone in Imlil and found one enough. It suits you if you want summit day to end with a bed in Imlil rather than a drive, or if you know that altitude hits you hard.
From November to April the three-day trek of Marrakech Day Trips - Tours needs crampons, an ice axe and warm layers; they are rented on the spot. See Toubkal in winter. The same listing is not suitable for children under 2, pregnant women, people with high blood pressure or people over 95.
From the three-day trek: breaks and good food on the way, small notes for the shops on the path and toilet paper. From the four-day trek: two guests who found the extra nights in Imlil more than they needed.
“It's not an easy hike but your guide will get you through it, making sure you're well fed and have plenty of breaks. Make sure you bring cash (in small denominations) so you can purchase snacks and water along the way (there are plenty of small shops along the trail) AND TIP YOUR GUIDE WELL!! Also bring toilet paper!”
“Great trip. Stars in our eyes, memories in our minds. Thanks to our guides, who were very friendly and attentive. Great service on their part. Excellent value for money. Perhaps the activity and the equipment could be described in more detail on the website.”
“Make sure you check carefully before the trip; the trekking is long and difficult. The altitude is high and the climb is steep, at night. Also, 2 or 3 days are perfect; 4 days are too long. I spent two days alone in Imlil; one would have been enough.”
“Unfortunately, the 4-day package was pointless. Strictly the same as the 2-day package, but with 2 extra nights in Imlil, where there is little to do. Everything else was as expected.”
Reviews by trekkers who booked through GetYourGuide.
It depends on the listing. Marrakech Day Trips - Tours walks from Imlil to the Tizi n’Tamatert pass at 2,275 m and back to a lodge in Imlil. Toubkal Ascent drives you to Imlil for the night.
Yes, on all the longer summit treks here: mules on the three-day trek of Marrakech Day Trips - Tours, a muleteer with Toubkal Ascent and a mule team on the four-day trek. You walk with a daypack.
The walking is the same: summit from the refuge, then down to Imlil. You start it after a night in Imlil and a night at the refuge, so you are less tired. Only the four-day trek ends summit day in Imlil instead of Marrakech.
For most people three days are enough. The four-day trek adds a second night in Imlil, and two reviewers found it longer than they needed. It makes sense if altitude affects you strongly or if you want to rest before the drive.
On the three-day trek of Marrakech Day Trips - Tours, transport from and to Marrakech is included. Toubkal Ascent meets you at an address in Marrakech, and the four-day trek uses Hôtel Islane as its meeting point.
